AYURVEDA & BARLEY GRASS
According to the ancient healing science of Ayurveda, every living and non-living thing in the Universe
is made up of a combination of five basic elements: space, air, fire, water and earth.
Our human body is also made up of these five elements in various combinations.
They manifest in the human body as three basic principles or subtle energies known as doshas:
Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Barley Grass by itself affects the doshas in the following way:
it increases Vata and is very good for balancing Kapha.
However, depending on how you use barley grass,
you can balance the doshas in different ways:
People with a Vata constitution can take barley grass in a warm milk of some kind.
People with a Kapha constitution can take barley grass in a warm juice or ginger tea.
People with a Pitta constitution can take barley grass in a cold juice.
According to Ayurveda, barley grass taken with milk
will have increased nutritive properties.
Remember not to add barley grass to liquid over 49°C (120°F) as some of the nutrients
may become unstable at this temperature.
A warm drink therefore shouldn’t be too hot either.
